Dyke Marsh Bird Walk


Orchard Oriole, female; Dyke Marsh, Alexandria, VA. We got a good look at this lovely bird. A male orchard was nearby.
In addition to the birds shown below, we saw:
White-eyed vireo
warbling vireo
blue gray gnatcatcher
yellow rumped warbler
great blue heron
american coot
male orchard oriole
spotted sandpiper
double crested cormorant
cardinals
carolina wren
mourning dove
red belly woodpecker

the group also saw a baltimore oriole but I only got a flash of bright orange as it went behind a tree.Posted by Picasa

Canada goose with gosling. Huntley Meadows, VA . I saw three separate Geese pairs with goslings, one with a set of six, right at the boardwalk! That pair hissed at us quite hard as we went by. Posted by Picasa

Barn Swallow, Patuxent National Wildlife Center, Beltsville, MD. There were a whole flock of these that were apparently nesting or roosting under a pier. They flew out when we walked on the pier. This one flew on to the gravel beach for a few minutes. Posted by Picasa
